This knife is worth more than the asking price. I read a lot of reviews about the scratches due to the clip before I bought the knife, but decided to buy it anyway. Factory sharpened but comes to a nice razor edge. Very strong and solid in the grip. Perfect size for combat or in a jam with wild animals while hunting or in the wilderness.

Solution to clip scratches: If you look in the sheath without the knife, you’ll see a little piece of plastic that looks like it would come out if you stuck a blade between it. Stick a steak knife in there and it pops right out; it will fall in the sheath, just turn it over give a shake and it will come right out. You have just exposed the clip, which you can simply shake out or use the steak knife to wiggle it out. The clip is OPTIONAL! Place the little square plastic piece back with the sharp side up and give a tap with a heavier knife and it should go right back in. No more scratches! You can now do of of two things for a better fit. You can bend the clip so that it would not be so snug on the knife and put it back in or you can get a piece of leather the length of the blade cut it out as if it were a sheath; stitch the edge along the blade side, and you can put it back in the original plastic sheath for a nice snug fit. This will preserve the black paint on your knife. Enjoy.

A nice Kukri – what I expected. A knife that seems intended for slashing and stabbing. If you need a knife for sawing or cutting through thick, tough rope forget it – this is not your knife. This knife is ideal for slashing through light foliage and stabbing targets (I have yet to actually stab an enemy with this lol hopefully I’ll never have to). I found this to be a little heavy for a knife. Nice handle – provides good control. It has an awesome sheath that goes on a belt loop. I recommend using this Kukri with another knife – one that can saw through tough, stubborn material. Interchange knives based on the situation.

This is an excellent knife for practically anything. It’s extremely sharp on both sides, totally waterproof(knife and case) and easy to carry on the hip or concealed. A while back I went mud bogging with it strapped to my leg because you never know when you’ll need a sharp knife. I was up to my waist in mud and dirty water, and it never came out of the case and formed no rust whatsoever after I got home and washed it off. I recommend this knife for anyone with a knife collection or maybe a wife or sister who needs some self defense in their purse. Excellent product. Thanks S&W!

I just purchased this knife and I’m very happy with it. I have the habit of carrying a pocket knife where ever I go (thanks to Dad). When I misplaced my longtime S&W pocket knife recently, I decided to hunt for a replacement. This was the knife I chose. So far, I’ve used it for a number of tasks including: cutting a rubber hose, cutting rope, breaking down boxes, and opening plastic packaging. It’s performed well, and I’ve noticed the following things:

Pros:
-Very sturdy. It feels like it’ll last a good long time.
-The belt clip is good. For me, this is a must. The clip has good tension and is removable using star bits.
-Extremely easy to open with one hand. It’s almost scary. There are two ways to open it, actually. You can use the thumb stud in the traditional manner. Or by grasping it sort of like a flute and pushing down on the back stud with your index finger, you can flip it out in one fluid motion (I prefer this method because it’s faster and somehow more satisfying). Alternately, when the blade is put away it seats snugly in the handle. I don’t have to worry about it opening in my pocket or pack.
-The blade is nice. The metal seems thick and solid, without being too heavy. The straight blade with serrates gives the knife a lot of versatility.
-While I haven’t yet put it to the test of years of punishment, the magnesium handle seems sturdy. It’s light while being broad enough to fit nicely in the hand.

Cons:
-For the actual size of the blade, the knife is a wee bit bulky in the pocket, but as stated earlier that extra broadness in the handle turns into a bonus when using it to cut things.
-I should have bought two.

I went to the local Big 5 Sporting Goods store to buy a future son-in-law a birthday knife. Big 5 had several models of S&W HRT knives on sale for under .00 and it has become a family joke to give a knife as a gift with the warning, “Don’t cut yourself!” As I looked at the knives in the glass case, I really didn’t like any of the blade styles and features. I wanted a conventional knife without saw teeth and without a tanto style blade. Just a plain looking knife. I didn’t mind the folder function, just didn’t want the saw teeth and weird shape. The only ones that looked conventional were not on sale and were marked over .00. Too much for the occasion. I looked at the offerings and told the sales clerk that I didn’t want any of the S&W sale knives.”No problem,” he said, “I’ll sell you any of them at the sale price.” When I asked about the over .00 S&W knives he said sure, same deal. I bought two of them. One for my son-in-law and one for me.

When I got home I put one knife in my knife drawer and gave the other to the son-in-law. Later we went to Mount Rainer for weekend camp out and I took the drawer knife along. I spent the weekend whittling wooden swords and walking sticks for kids and grown-ups at the camp out. The knife turned out to be a surprisingly good knife. I used it for the entire weekend and whittled for hours.

This knife has really surprised me. It is tough, pretty comfortable to use, it holds an edge very well. It is very easy to restore it to razor sharpness. I have since purchased a Smith’s Diamond Stone Knife Sharpener (about 6 inches long and one inch flat wide with coarse and fine diamond surfaces) and a Smith’s pocket carbide/ceramic sharpener to put the edge back on when I am out for a weekend.

I highly recommend this knife. I would immediately buy a couple more of them to put away if I could get find a deal on them like I did that day.
